Associate directors of non-profit organizations are tasked with assisting their organizations' directors and are responsible for developing strategic plans related to fundraising, donor recognition programs, events for major donor societies, public events related to fundraising, and other endeavors. Prior managerial or supervisory experience and a bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or another relevant field are generally required for this position.These associate directors should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as computer skills to organize records and use database programs, Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), and their organization’s computer system. They must keep track of multiple prospects and existing donors and work within established budgets to meet fundraising goals. They should be able to build strong teamwork habits among employees, as well as generate effective reports and provide clear and concise presentations, and they may be required to travel to donors’ offices and make presentations to employees of organizations which sponsor and support the non-profit's cause.Those in this position must oversee the implementation of strategic plans for fundraising and recognition initiatives and assist their directors when visiting committee members and major donors. They also help update and approve recognition related policies and may be required to manage annual administrative and recognition budgets. They are often tasked with establishing fundraising goals and developing strategies to meet them, as well.
