An inventory manager controls the inventory of materials or goods for a company. This includes keeping accurate account of all inventory on hand, as well as ordering additional inventory to meet the needs of the business. The inventory manager decides whether a product needs to have additional stock in the warehouse or if it can be ordered on an as-needed basis. The inventory manager is also responsible for hiring and managing inventory clerks to assist them.The position of inventory manager can be physically and mentally demanding. They can be expected to stand for long periods of time, as well as bend and twist to locate and count inventory on hand. Depending on the type of business, inventory may be located in a hot warehouse or in an air-conditioned building.Generally, a bachelor's degree in mathematics or inventory management is required in this position.
