The team leader for sourcing electronics and computers is accountable for establishing strategies for guiding electronic and computer supply chains to ensure the most cost-effective and efficient service is available. The individuals in this position aid with placing orders, managing relationships with vendors and managing product sourcing. They are accountable for leading discussions with suppliers on pricing and evaluating bids from suppliers as well as resolving complaints from customers and delivery problems, maintaining a positive rapport with suppliers, as well as keeping electronic catalogs and databases of vendors. In addition, sourcing team leaders are responsible for managing cross-functional teams of sourcing and supervising junior buyers, assigning tasks to employees at lower levels and acting as an officer for small business liaison. An undergraduate degree from engineering, business administration or computer science or any related subject is typically required for this job, however, a master's degree could be preferable. The leader of the sourcing team typically has at least five years of working in the procurement field, which includes strategic sourcing, management of commodities and the supervision of buyers.
