Vice-presidents (VPs) of administration and operations oversee every aspect of the internal administration of an organisation. They create short- and long-term plans for their institutions and organize departments, manage operations between departments, manage the company's resources, and ensure the necessary quality control by evaluating and altering performance. They also oversee and implement the budgetary requirements of the company and are accountable for the day-to-day activities of the company. Vice-presidents of operations and administration collaborate with other management to organize, plan and oversee institutional operations. They oversee all internal departments to ensure that quality control is maintained and also analyze complicated corporate documents and interpret them in order to communicate to investors or other managers. They should be well-versed about the specifics of their company to ensure that all applicable standards, laws, and regulations are adhered to.
Large or medium-sized corporations or companies will have the vice president of operations and administration (or the equivalent position). The vice presidents typically operate in an office setting during normal working hours. However, some overtime (including weekends and nights) could be necessary to fulfill the requirements of the job and ensure smooth running of the business. A significant amount of travel could be required, for conferences and meetings or to supervise the corporate facilities.
A master's or higher degree in a related area (e.g., law, business or finance, accounting or labour relations) and an extensive (generally at minimum 10-years') experience in administrative and managerial work in a company environment is usually required for vice-presidents of administration and operations.
