A manager assistant who is in charge of quality control should be able to support the management's procedures, decisions and plans within the organizational structure, environment, and culture. In addition they have to find out if there are any gaps within the production process and organization structure, and weaknesses in the quality of production of products produced by the company. Assistant managers oversee the processes and procedures of production, as performed by union or hourly employees - those who carry out the specialized and discrete duties of their organizations.
Most of the time, the initial hours of work for assistant managers in quality control are similar to those employed by management at the upper level; assistant managers typically start working with their upper-level management supervisors for training and supervision in their management job. After the training assistant managers may be assigned on a third or second shift post, and their supervisors working only during normal working hours.
Based on the area that they are working in the assistant managers responsible for quality control should have a background in the process and materials created. In a certain degree they should be subject matter experts in their area, and have the skills they acquire through formal education, for example having a bachelor's degree in engineering or certificate in hospitality management, according to the job. However, the required knowledge could also be acquired from previous work experiences as an hourly earner (who was promoted to the position of assistant director of quality assurance).
