The chief compliance officer is accountable for the financial and operational aspects within their companies. When a division or department is involved in a new project that requires executive budget approval the chief compliance officer has to decide whether or not to approve the request. The chief compliance officer is also accountable for ensuring that the operations within the company are in compliance with the relevant rules, regulations and policies as well as laws.
