The Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) Directors are accountable for overseeing the organisation's information system for human resources that includes the configuration of the system and maintenance of security. An undergraduate degree in Information Technology (IT) or an equivalent field, and previous experience is usually required for this job.

HRIS directors collaborate closely with employees from the department of information technology (IT) as well as human resource (HR) departments. They provide direction in system evaluations, strategic directions, and other analysis. They could be involved in selecting suppliers and approving modifications to the current system. They monitor tasks assigned to their employees to ensure that deadlines are adhered to. Communication skills that are both written and verbal abilities are essential for this role as they could be involved in the hiring process and evaluating applicants within their respective departments. Directors must conduct reviews of performance and give timely feedback to employees and must keep abreast of government regulations and rules pertaining to benefits and pay for employees to ensure that the relevant requirements are incorporated in their HRIS system. Experience working with PeopleSoft and a working knowledge of SuccessFactors, Workday, Taleo, or SAP are extremely beneficial and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs may be necessary for this job. HRIS directors could have to also travel for their company branches.
