The process begins with the materials coordinator working with senior management to develop an acceptable set of procedures to track materials throughout the material's life with the company. Proper forms and records must be filed upon materials' receipt to ensure vendors are providing all of the ordered materials and to deal with any potential discrepancies. Next, storage must be handled in an effective and efficient manner. The materials coordinator must ensure that the materials are stored in a safe and stable fashion. Further, an organizational scheme must be maintained so that materials can be quickly located and retrieved. Additionally, the coordinator must maintain an adequate request system. Ideally, an employee will put in a requisition for a needed material in a computer system, and the requisition will reach the materials coordinator.
