They are responsible for a variety of duties, including studying the latest trends in social media, establishing brand recognition, and creating appealing content for users of the various social networks. They must establish an environment where the business can effectively communicate with prospective and current customers, answering questions and assisting in resolving problems or concerns.
Social media managers usually operate in a workplace during normal business hours; however, working outside office hours could be necessary to maintain the social media accounts of the company and also respond to posts from other users on these platforms. Social media managers could be required to write blogs for their organization as well as to request and edit content from other employees within the organization as well. In all instances, the manager of social media has to ensure that all content posted on each platform is in line with the company's policy on social media and brand image.
Employers typically require at least five years of experience in the field of digital marketing to be considered for this job. An undergraduate degree from communications, marketing or another similar field is usually preferred. A high level of organizational, communication and management abilities are typically required for this job. Ability to master the latest social media tools as well to integrate them into the existing social media profile is also required.
