Description

The role of a fundraising assistant is for providing administrative support to fundraising staff as well as the fundraising director. The assistant is also involved in all fundraising activities such as direct mail, donor relations and special events.

The primary responsibilities include processing donations, as well as creating acknowledgement letters and other correspondence; archiving the office files of foundations, corporate and individual donors; preparing and distributing annual appeal letters; as well as updating databases that contains the records of donations, which includes tax deduction documents. The assistant is also responsible for helping with quarterly meetings of the development committee, including preparing/distributing the notice of meeting, the agenda, and typing the minutes. Other tasks are usually given as required.

While the work is done predominantly in office spaces, there's a bit of physical work involved in transporting boxes of material to events for fundraising. Being able to lift up to 25lbs is required. A working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint is required, as well as familiarity with GiftMaker Pro would be a advantage.

Although an associate's degree or a bachelor's degree are typically required for this job however, experience can be substituted for education. Typically three years of work experience working in a development office or similar charitable or fundraising setting is required for applicants who do not have having a degree.

The ability to prioritize tasks is essential and so are good communication abilities both verbal and written. Candidates must be able to create correspondence on their own without input from the staff or director.

While the majority of work is done in a workplace however, there are some tasks that will be carried out in local ballrooms, hotels and other venues in which events are held.The typical work hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:30 until 5:30. However, certain days may begin at 7:00 a.m. and end late into the evening, when board meetings are scheduled or events for charity are scheduled. Since charitable events are typically scheduled on weekends, some work on the weekend is necessary.Typically the fundraising assistant is in close contact with the director of development and fundraising personnel.
