A supply chain expert ensures that inventory and supplies are purchased, received, replenished and maintained at the appropriate levels to allow the business to operate efficiently. They serve as the primary source of communication for vendors, and ensure that all questions from members of their company's relationship with suppliers are addressed promptly and in a timely way. The supply chain expert has to ensure accurate record keeping of supply as well as inventory level are kept and examine data regarding the utilization or loss of the resources in the course of time. The supply chain specialists should ensure that the business never runs into surplus or a deficiency stock of inventory and supplies.

Collaboration with the other departments is crucial for supply chain professionals, since the specialist needs to be up-to current on any changes in production or forthcoming marketing events that could impact the demand for supplies. The ability to efficiently create and present reports that provide information and trends regarding inventory and supplies to the management team is also expected.

The candidates for this job typically have at least an associate's or bachelor's level in business administration or supply chain management or in a related area. Supply chain specialists must also possess at least three to one years of experience in purchasing or supply chain-related jobs.
