An all-India Institution, Birla Institution of Technology and Science commenced operations in 1964. The first campus was set up in Pilani in Rajasthan with Mr. GD Birla as its Founding Chairman.In 1983, the then Chairman Dr. K.K. Birla perceived the importance of top class higher education in the fields of science and technology. Under his leadership, BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus was established in the year 2000.
