Description

Senior instrumentation engineers develop concepts and designs for equipment that will be used in new facilities within the form of a distributed system for control. They also create analyses that explain the reasons why equipment at the facility could or might not have failed. They also offer assistance to maintenance personnel when required. In general, an engineer with the title of senior instrumentation acts as an intermediary between the company that is developing innovative technologies and the organization which the senior instrumentation engineer is employed by.

The experience needed to be an experienced senior instrumentation engineer is extensive. As a minimum, you must meet an expectation of having a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or electrical engineering, or a similar area. It is also standard to have at minimum 10 years of working experience in chemical or petroleum refining. The job of a senior engineer in instrumentation is performed inside, however, occasionally there may be tasks that need to be done outside. Sometimes, travel is necessary to perform work on an equipment at a different facility or in a different city. Sometimes, overtime is required.

The title suggests that the engineers in charge of instrumentation will have supervise other employees. The work of other employees will have to be inspected by the engineer in charge These engineers will be accountable to mentor or train new employees.
