Description

A SharePoint architect is a software engineer serving a specific function related to SharePoint within their organization. Unlike more general computer engineers, SharePoint architects are focused on mapping functions and features of a solution to the Microsoft SharePoint program. As such, SharePoint architects need to be trained and regularly updated on the functionalities of the SharePoint program. These architects must break down SharePoint-related problems and analyze potential methods to solve them, which involves collaboration with other professionals within the organization such as programmers, designers, architects, and strategists. After determining the best possible solution, the architect has to build the solution using the SharePoint program or oversee others performing the programming.Depending on the specific role (e.g., supervisory versus entry level), architects may or may not interact with clients. A supervisor may have to work with clients to ascertain the exact specifications requested by the client and then work with their team to implement the specifications requested. This position typically takes place in an office setting during regular business hours. Most architects have at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, although some employers may accept equivalent experience in lieu of a degree. Previous experience in a similar position is generally required, especially in a supervisory capacity.
