Potential and current EFL/ESL teachers can identify, summarize, evaluate, and compare 7 basic language learning paradigms through engaging stories and metaphors. The foundational principles of motivation, risk-taking, learning modes, and balance in the teaching profession will all be covered. The principles of teacher talk, looking ridiculous" to lower the affective filter and networking are all explained to learners. These foundational principles will help ESL/EFL teachers to examine common assumptions regarding language learning and compare them with research-based core principles.

This course introduces learners to foreign or second language theories and practices. These are used to teach and assess listening, speaking and pronunciation. The course will also introduce learners to the basics of second language acquisition and their implications for teaching. Teachers will be encouraged to examine purpose, content, as well as technique in order to understand the importance of establishing a teaching philosophy.

The lesson plan design process will be explained to learners. It is based on the principles and knowledge of learning objectives and assessment plans. Through careful analysis, adaptation, and creation of professional resources, learners will be able to find and prepare the appropriate teaching materials. Learning will allow learners to reflect on the interdependence between teaching philosophies and lesson design.

The final Capstone Project will allow you to apply the skills that you have learned from observing teachers in action (a total of six hours). To analyze the lessons, you will use the concepts from previous courses. Your teaching philosophy, five-day lesson plans, and a teaching tip will be submitted. This course will teach you how to teach reading and writing, as well as how to incorporate grammar instruction into your courses. You will learn how to assist students with different types of reading difficulties and how to use both intensive and comprehensive reading strategies. Learn strategies to engage students in the stages of writing--pre-writing, writing, and post-writing. Learn about the different writing issues that students might encounter. Use noticing and input enhancement to incorporate grammar.

This course will introduce you to the various challenges that come with teaching and learning listening and speaking. You'll also learn the meanings of these terms! You'll then learn how to make it easier for students to acquire listening and speaking skills. This course also demonstrates the power of pronunciation and provides strategies for incorporating pronunciation activities into listening and speaking classes.

This course will focus on key concepts that you need to integrate technology into your teaching without making it too distracting from language learning. Learn about current and future trends and strategies to implement these trends in your classroom. Technology is constantly changing. Learn how to stay on top of the latest technological developments through professional development networks or training opportunities.

You will use the skills that you have learned through practice teaching in your final Capstone Project. To improve your lesson plans, you will use the assignments from previous courses.
